Writing Groups &
Community Events
Building community is essential to my mission as a writer. Here, you'll find information regarding the open writing groups and communities I help lead.
We'd love to have you join us!
Writing Out Loud!
A VIRTUAL write-in style group where participants write on two, preselected prompts for 15 minutes each. Sessions are 90-95 minutes and you're welcomed to come and go as you please.
There is zero pressure to share, but for those who are interested, there is time to read work aloud on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The event concludes with community building and conversation about current projects and other timely topics.
The next session will be held on:
THURSDAY, MAY 5 @ 7 PM ET.
Sessions are held monthly on:
1st Thursday of each Month at 7 PM ET
&
3rd Sunday of each Month at 2 PM ET
*Sessions that conflict with holidays will be rescheduled with advanced notice.
There are plans for an in-person session Summer 2025, please email malaika.r.simmons@gmail.com for additional details and to be added to the interest list.

Shut Up and Write!
Shut Up & Write! fosters productivity and connection through regular, supportive writing sessions that help writers build habits, overcome procrastination, and achieve their creative dreams.
Once a week, I'll be hosting a virtual writing session where you can come and work for an hour on whatever you want. The accountability of being around others at work is incredibly powerful.
Sessions are held EVERY WEEK on:
THURSDAYS from 2-3:30 PM ET

Craft Study Group
A non-traditional writing group focused on understanding and exploring essential writing concepts.
The group is a tight-knit community of writers committed to studying the craft of writing, sharing meaningful feedback, and empowering one another to take creative risks. Our mission is "to foster artistic growth in a safe and supportive environment, where ideas ignite, and stories come alive."
For our weekly sessions, each member reads a portion of the assigned text and prepares a written exercise - usually a writing sample relating to the lesson. Members lead the group discussion on a rotating basis.
The group is limited to 8 people and
is currently CLOSED to new members.
Please send an email to inquire about our wait list.
